Hiring a Caricature Artist?
Here are some guidelines:

You are about to hire a caricature artist for your party, event or trade show, an excellent popular, time-honored choice of entertainment. There are three main issues you need to check on before going ahead and book the artist. Keep in mind that professional caricature artists will not be offended when questioned about the following:

1. Work Samples

Good caricature artist would volunteer to show you their work samples. The most convenient way of viewing the work is their website. Our party caricatures and gallery for example offer you a set of party caricatures as well as detailed studio caricature illustration work that you can view, enjoy and purchase. We also offer samples of party caricatures and a complete description of the arrangements involved on the same pege. It is about being honest and telling clients what they will get for their money. If an artists web site looks amateurish, low end and unreliable, it says something about the quality of the work and is a bad sign. If not provided, ask to see samples of work done by the artist. Make sure that the samples shown to you are by the artist or artists themselves. Nobody likes surprizes when it comes to hiring a performer for your highly anticipated event.

2. Artistic Credentials

Always ask about the artist(s) background and education. A brief description would suffice. Something like the following. To keep it generic, we call our caricaturist Fuzzy :O)

Our senior caricature artist, Fuzzy, has been drawing caricatures and cartoons for the past seventeen years. He has worked at events held by over sixty respectable companies througout Canada. He has created illustration and imagery for publications, advertisng and web sites as well as teaching portrait and caricature art since 1990. He draws 12 to 15 full body and face caricatures or 18 to 20 profiles per hour. Fuzzy is a natural joker and continues a conversation with the audience through the event. He studied animation and industrial design. He has worked on three different popular TV shows and been featured on two separate CBC programs. You can view samples of his work here

This gives you a good idea about the person you are hiring. Speed, quality and attitude are very important.

3. Performance Credentials

A good caricature artist is a personable, fun, professional entertainer. An expressionless, non-interacting and quiet caricaturist is NO fun. Sitting down to have your caricature done can be a questionable experience for some individuals. It is important that the artist have a personable funfilled manner! A BIG part of the art of drawing caricatures as an entertainer at an event is putting the person in front of you at ease. The artist should also entertain the onlookers. Being focused is no excuse. Good artists multitask. There is a bit of a balancing act involved between keeping the subject at ease and keeping the other guests amused while no one is offended. All these qualities come with experience. A good caricaturist is naturally funny, very skilled with the pen and has outstanding people skills.

These will help you make a decision. If you need more information on this matter, please email us and we will provide more advice. You are not obligated to use our services or buy anything by doing so.
